Capitol police, saying that congressional cafeteria workers were dishing out more than just food, today announced that they have broken up a small drug-peddling ring that worked out of a Senate kitchen.

A police spokesman said eight kitchen workers were arrested on charges of selling cocaine, marijuana and the hallucinogen PCP to undercover policemen.

The spokesman said the workers, who are free on bail, were selling the drugs in the cafeteria kitchen of a Senate office building.

It was not known whether any senators were aware of the drug sales, the spokesman said.

Two years ago the House Ethics Committee conducted an investigation of sex practices and drug abuse in Congress and concluded that there was substantial evidence that three former congressmen, who were not identified, had used drugs.
