Datapoint will keep its manufacturing unit

New York investor Asher B. Edelman, the newly elected Datapoint chairman, said he has changed his mind about plans to spin off the San Antonio computer company’s core manufacturing operation. Edelman, who holds about 12% of the firm’s shares, won a battle to take control of the company earlier this month and said he planned to sell all of its assets to third parties. But he said that he had altered his plans because he was “surprised and impressed” by the firm’s future product lines.
