Faria Wins Opening Night at Speedway
Mike Faria of Riverside won the scratch main event on opening night of the weekly speedway motorcycle racing season Friday in front of 6,842 in the Orange County Fairgrounds at Costa Mesa.
Faria beat Keith Chrisco, Brad Oxley and Mike Curoso to win the five-lap event.
In the five-lap handicap main event, Jim Lawson of Riverside beat Dennis Briggs and four other riders to win. Lawson beat Briggs by an inch at the tape.
Don Butler of Riverside won the second-division main event and Doug Nicole of Redondo Beach won the third division main event.
