Chlorine gas leaked from Union Carbide’s pesticide plant, sending hundreds of residents fleeing in panic today from the area where more than 2,500 were killed by a gas leak four months ago.

At least seven people were injured by the fumes. The residents returned to their shanty homes after the company and the Madhya Pradesh state government gave assurances that the chlorine fumes had dissipated and were not poisonous.
