A Michigan agency approved a loan for Mazda.

Earlier, local building trade unions accepted a new no-strike contract for workers who will build Mazda’s $450-million assembly plant in Flat Rock, Mich. Mazda had earlier postponed construction work on the site because of financing and labor problems. Michigan officials said they now expect Mazda to start construction in the next week or two. Michigan state officials said the problems with the plant’s financing were cleared up when a state agency approved a $2-million to $6-million loan for Mazda at 8% interest to make up for a shortfall in federal funding for the project.
