The flow of raw sewage, which had poured into Sail Bay at the rate of 300 gallons per minute since late Tuesday night, was reduced dramatically Thursday afternoon when city workers installed a pump so the flow would bypass the break in the sewer line at Reed Avenue and Gresham Street in Pacific Beach. Authorities from the Water and Sewage Services Utilities Department said they hoped to have the spillage shut off by late Thursday and begin repairs on the line today. The spill forced the closure of the Sail Bay portion of Mission Bay for at least two weeks. It forced the San Diego Crew Classic set for Saturday to move to east Mission Bay. The event annually attracts crowds of about 40,000.
