Santa Ana : $192,433 Loan Will Allow City to Convert Street Lights
New street lights are in store for sections of Edinger Avenue and Main Street, thanks to a $192,433 loan recently granted the city by the California Energy Commission.
The loan, one of eight statewide, will be used to convert 295 mercury vapor street lights to multiple high-pressure sodium vapor. Mercury vapor lights have a greenish tint; the sodium vapor lamps appear orange.
The conversion is expected to save the city about $36,000 annually, since sodium vapor lamps are considered more cost-efficient.
The lights are on Edinger Avenue between Bristol and Maple streets, and on Main Street between Warner Avenue and Santiago Creek. The conversion is expected to be completed early next year.
