Two wrongs don’t make a right! Indignant comments to my letter canceling a trip to Europe were, at best, lacking in insight and foresight. Of course I’m aware of robberies and muggings in America, but at least, if I’m attacked here and survive, I have access to immediate legal and/or medical aid without a foreign language barrier (and I speak several fluently) to add to the trauma.

As for Mrs. Blair’s airs about art, culture and architecture, let her look around and see the magnificence of the Tetons, Grand Canyon and read Faulkner, Hemingway, Miller, Wylie, etc., and go to so many of our outstanding museums and art galleries. Sure, I’ll give the nod to European antiquity with faded paintings, crumbling buildings and drafty castles, but so very many, many objets d’art are here on display in America.

A trip abroad involves a large output of money--passports, air fares, shots (in some instances) before one leaves for the airport. In America, all one need do is hop into one’s car to go!

In closing, don’t die in Europe. Check this out--you will be horrified at the expense and entanglements.
