Gov. George Deukmejian warned that time is running out for the Southern California Rapid Transit District to settle its dispute with bus drivers and avoid a threatened strike later this month. In a letter to RTD President Nikolas Patsaouras and Earl Clark, the head of the United Transportation Union, Deukmejian complained that Los Angeles bus riders could be forced to endure their sixth strike in 13 years. Less than two weeks remain in a court-ordered “cooling-off” period.
