The City Council has given its approval so that construction can begin on 46 duplexes and one single-family house in the Jasmine Park section of the Irvine Co’s. 5th Avenue Parcels.

Larry Lizotte, president of Laguna Hills-based LDM Development Inc., which will build the two- and three-bedroom duplexes on the 10 acres in Corona del Mar, said the work will begin this summer and is to be finished early in 1986.

Two other Irvine Co. projects proposed for the 5th Avenue development--including high-density, “affordable” apartments at the Brisa del Mar site and housing for retirees adjacent to the OASIS senior citizens’ center--were held over until July by the council.

At a previous meeting, residents of Harbor View spoke against having the “affordable” housing near their neighborhood. Of the 96 apartments, 84 would be earmarked for families with annual incomes of $30,000 or less.

Dave Dmohowski, government relations manager for the Irvine Co., said the developer has no plans to submit to the council tentative tract maps for the developments.
