South Bay
The South Bay Hospital District, which provides funds for public health programs in Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach, has scheduled public hearings in each city to receive comments from residents and private and public agencies about health needs in their communities. The district earlier said it may be able to grant about $1 million in the 1985-86 fiscal year.
Hearings will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. as follows: Manhattan Beach, May 3, Joslyn Center Auditorium, 1601 Valley Drive; Hermosa Beach, May 7, Hermosa Beach Community Center Theater, 710 Pier Ave., and Redondo Beach, May 9, Artesia Community Center, 2000 Artesia Blvd.
In a policy statement, the district board of directors said it intends to support existing health programs, sponsor programs that present agencies do not have the funds to support, and provide community health education. The board said it wants to offer assistance in such special categories as senior citizen health, child abuse prevention and alcohol and drug dependency.
A public agency with an elected board, the district became a funding source for local health programs last summer after it leased South Bay Hospital to American Medical International Inc. for $3 million a year.
