Four people, including a 4-year-old boy thrown from the back of a pickup truck, were injured when the truck collided with a car in Sun Valley on Wednesday afternoon, Los Angeles police said.

The 4-year-old boy and another youth, neither of whom were identified, were thrown from the flatbed of the truck, officer Doug Anderson said. The 4-year-old was in good condition at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills with bruises and a possible concussion, hospital officials said.

Police said they did not know the extent of the injuries to the other youth.

The truck, driven by Catherine Gwaltney, 30, of Panorama City, was westbound on Sheldon Street about 2:45 p.m. when it ran a red light and struck a car, Anderson said. The car was southbound on Arleta Avenue, driven by Melanie Kusch, 32, of Burbank, the officer said.
