Airline Pilot Loses License for Use of Incorrect Runway
United Press International
WASHINGTON —
An American Airlines pilot had his license revoked because he took off from the wrong runway in Mexico City and struck a light pole, damaging the landing gear of the plane carrying 152 persons, the Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday.
According to the order issued April 5, Capt. Anthony Kowalski of Ormond Beach, Fla., will not be able to command an airline plane unless he is recertified by the FAA.
Kowalski can still fly as a co-pilot and may apply for full recertification in a year, a spokesman said.
