County Reports Higher March Permit Valuation

A total of 2,294 building permits valued at $147,255,810 were issued during March by the county Department of Public Works building and safety division for unincorporated areas and the 26 cities served by the division.

This compared with 1,707 permits valued at $80,099,590 issued during February, and with the 2,391 permits valued at $126,554,610 during March, 1984. Permits totaling 19,014 and valued at $1,039,454,950 were issued during the nine-month period ending March 31, 1985, while 19,360 permits valued at $873,685,070 were issued in the same period the year before.

Last month, 50 permits exceeded $500,000 in valuation. Twenty-five were for apartments or condominiums and 21 for industrial or commercial buildings. The largest single project, 20 permits for 20 buildings with a total value of $12,175,000, was for a Lincoln Properties apartment complex at 801 E. Alosta Ave., Azusa.

During February, eight permits were issued with valuations larger than $500,000; the largest was a $2.3-million permit for a retail store in Agoura Hills. The February total was down from the $84,033,750 in 2,161 permits issued for the corresponding month in 1984.
