Company officials have indicated that the firm’s first-quarter earnings, which will be reported in about a week, were significantly lower than hoped. The Minneapolis-based company has begun what it calls “a significant reduction” of the work force in its computer peripheral products group. The company did not disclose the number of jobs it proposes to cut. Control Data has a total worldwide work force of 52,000.
