A participant in a drive-by shooting in Linda Vista that left a 15-year-old boy a paraplegic was sentenced Monday to a year in County Jail. Ly Gong Vo, 18, was believed to be the driver of a car that passed Skateworld Roller Rink on Oct. 6 while the occupants opened fire on people in a parking lot, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Ken Medel.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Zumwalt fined Vo $500 and gave him credit for 282 days already spent in jail and at Chino State Prison, where he recently finished a diagnostic study. Zumwalt ordered Vo not to associate with any gang members upon his release, including his 14- and 15-year-old co-defendants, and not to wear clothing or symbols associated with gangs.

Vo could have faced five years in state prison. He pleaded guilty Dec. 18 to assault with a deadly weapon. Medel said one of Vo’s passengers in the front seat did the actual shooting.
