For the second time in five years, Diana Needham has been named mayor of Cerritos. Needham, who was first elected to the City Council in 1978, was unanimously chosen mayor Tuesday in the council’s annual reorganization. She was serving as mayor pro tem at the time of her new appointment.

Councilman Alex Beanum, a consulting engineer, was selected as the city’s new mayor pro tem.

Needham, a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona, is a project manager with an Orange County-based planning and architecture firm, Florian-Martinez and Associates. She succeeds Councilman Barry Rabbitt as mayor and will serve until April, 1986.

Needham served a one-year term as mayor in 1980.
