Share

The Downey Historical Society will celebrate its 20th anniversary with the opening of the Downey History Center, 12540 Rives Ave., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to public inspection of the center, festivities for the grand opening will include an antique and classic car “drive by” in the morning and songs by the Gentlemen of Harmony quartet of the Downey Revelaires Barbershop Chorus in the afternoon.

Leased through a cooperative agreement with the city and funded and operated by the all-volunteer group of 350 members, the Downey History Center is the first free-standing facility for the collection, preservation and study of materials relating to the community’s 112-year history.
