Student Bus Riders Must Pay an Extra $25 a Year
Irvine students who use the bus to get to school will have to pay an extra $25 beginning in July. At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Board of Education voted unanimously to raise the yearly fee for bus riders to $125. Families with annual incomes of $18,000 or less will continue to receive either free or discounted bus passes.
The fee increase, the first in the nearly four years Irvine has been charging for bus transportation, was undertaken to help raise revenues for the district, which expects to enact $1.5 million in budget cuts over the next two years. District officials said the increased revenues would amount to about $50,000 during the upcoming school year.
