2 Strong Quakes Hit Nicaragua

MANAGUA, Nicaragua — Two strong earthquakes less than 15 minutes apart shook central Nicaragua today, sending frightened people fleeing into the streets. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage in this city where hundreds fled their homes.
The Nicaraguan Seismological Institute said the first tremor, measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, occurred at 9 a.m. PST and lasted 15 seconds. The quake was followed 12 minutes later by a temblor measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale. It lasted only five seconds.
