A South Coast Air Quality Management District hearing on a controversial application to move 120,000 cubic yards of refuse from one portion of the closed Operating Industries landfill to another portion has been extended for at least two more sessions.

Officials of the state Department of Health Services are expected to testify at the next hearing at 9:30 a.m. April 30 at district headquarters, 9150 Flair Drive.

The hearing board is being asked to consider the request by the city of Monterey Park in connection with a planned 45-acre, $110-million commercial development and new Pomona Freeway interchange. Residents of Monterey Park and neighboring Montebello object to any further activity at the landfill because of odors and possible health hazards.
