A late-night explosion and fire destroyed a storage tank at the Douglas Oil Refinery in Paramount. The explosion occurred just before 11 p.m. at a tank containing a flammable liquid used to extract sulfur from gasoline, according to Hubert Parker, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Sixty-nine firefighters responding to three alarms contained the blaze in about an hour, Parker said. He said no injuries were reported as a result of the fire, which did about $100,000 damage.
