Doubly Useful

Your double section March 24 was equal to anything I have seen in recent years. Every article had a lot of useful meat in it. I learned a lot from the cumulative product, even though I fancy myself quite knowledgeable about hitting the ground running.

Topping the list for balanced reportage is Judith Morgan’s comments on B&B; experiences. She is always great, but in this article she surpassed herself. Anyone on the threshold of sampling the interesting bed-and-breakfast world for the first time can certainly gain much insight from Morgan’s illuminating piece.

Chuck Garrity’s happy-go-lucky odyssey on flexibility should comfort those who fear the perils of departing from a rigid schedule. My only misgiving in reading Garrity’s merry piece was a nagging awareness that Chuck was not getting maximum use out of his magic ticket, the Eurailpass. Next time he’ll probably take in all those places he skipped on this trip. I do applaud, though, his choice of L’Archestrate as his shoot-the-moon dining spot in Paris.

Bill Hughes’ article on the pros and cons of group vis-a-vis independent travel is as analytical as Morgan’s about B&Bs; and finally, Paul Markson’s piece on the same subject is very comprehensive.

If one had only one Jerry Hulse Travel section to read all year, he couldn’t improve on the one produced March 24. Thanks.
