Share

Next month, when 200 Navy families begin moving into new housing at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, they will be warmly welcomed by their new city.

A reception committee has been formed that includes representatives of social, service, business and religious groups, the City Council and local school board, municipal workers and dozens of other residents.

Packets with information about Seal Beach businesses, service clubs and social and recreational activities will be given to all the families as they arrive in town. The packets, made up by City Clerk Joanne Yeo, will also contain welcoming letters from the council.

P.L. Brady, housing director for the Navy base, said the first families are scheduled to start moving in May 2. Within a week, 114 families will either be in place or assigned to their new residences, he said.

A second contingent of 86 families will begin moving in on June 1, Brady said.
