Robert A. Elliott, president of VLI Corp. of Irvine, the maker of the Today contraceptive sponge, has been assigned additional duties as the company’s chief executive.
Elliott, who joined the company as president in July, 1983, takes over the chief executive position from Bruce W. Vorhauer, a company founder who will remain as chairman of the board and VLI’s largest shareholder.
The shift, Elliott explained, frees Vorhauer to work closely with the company’s research and development team in Montana and plan the company’s long-range strategy.
