A $20-million, 238-room Beverly Heritage Hotel broke ground last week across from the Orange County Performing Arts Center on Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa.

The six-story hotel, which will feature such amenities as telephones in the bathroom, is scheduled for completion in 1986.

The hotel will be built “in the tradition of great, small hotels,” said Gerald M. Kadish, president of the hotel division of Northview Corp., the San Diego-based parent company. Prices will be competitive, Kadish said, because the hotel will cut costs by not building large convention facilities and by leasing out its restaurants and bars to independent operators.
