An Olympic ‘Blue Ribbon’ Reunion

John C. Argue is being rewarded for his role in bringing the Olympic Games to Los Angeles at a black-tie affair Tuesday at the Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.

Peter Ueberroth will be featured speaker, and joining him at the head table will be the original members of the “blue ribbon” committee of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee: Howard Allen, Bill Robertson, Rod Rood, David Wolper and Paul Ziffren. The late Justin Dart was the other member.

Close friends from a myriad of organizations Argue has aided will be on hand--Town Hall, the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Pomona College, USC, Southern California Golf Assn., the Chancery, the California Club and the Automobile Club of Southern California. And more.

Robert B. Wolcott Jr. is promising a surprise ending. Among those staging the fun will be Card Walker.

Another of Argue’s beneficiaries will receive the proceeds: the Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation, with which he has long been involved.

The New American Orchestra celebrates its sixth anniversary May 3 at a concert at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The evening’s a tribute to Lionel Newman in honor of his 40 years of music at 20th Century Fox.

And, there’s May Day in Altadena too. Kathy Berchild and Margaret deBeixedon are springing forth with the Altadena Guild of Huntington Memorial Hospital’s annual benefit, tours of three Altadena homes and a boutique at Altadena Town and Country Club.

May Day is also the day Mrs. Philip S. Kamm Jr. is installed as president of the National Charity League, Los Angeles Chapter. The luncheon’s at the Jonathan Beach Club.

Meanwhile, the Sportsmen’s Club for the City of Hope is “On with the Show” for its 37th annual Women’s Luncheon of the Sportsmen’s Club on Tuesday, Wednesday and next Thursday at the Beverly Hilton.

For the second year, Mrs. Charles Royce is chairman. Her assistant is Mrs. Edward Stevens. Ruth S. Kahn is advising.

Bullock’s Vice President Judy B. Farris has agreed to the “fashion theater presentation,” and you can be sure it will be glossy.

Traditionally, the marathon luncheon attracts more than 4,000 over the three-day period. Dorothy Royce is confident the club will meet its goal of $200,000, “but, we wouldn’t consider this luncheon a success if we didn’t fill every seat in the ballroom.”
