The kick-off for a new national drug abuse education program for elementary and junior high school students, their families and teachers, will be held at Palms Junior High School, 10860 Woodbine Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The program, sponsored by Rancho Park Lions Club, will feature Michael Bircumshaw, a specialist in drug abuse problems.He is chairman of the Lions Club District 4-A2 Drug Awareness Program.

Also speaking will be Lauraine Barber, county commissioner on alcohol and drug abuse, and Rob Hartley, a motivational speaker.

The Lions Club hopes to expand its drug abuse program to affiliates in 157 countries.

Students and parents from Palms, Emerson, Revere, Daniel Webster and Marina del Rey junior high schools and Overland and Webster elementary schools have been invited to the kick-off.
