Reagan’s Visit to a German Cemetery

Share

I am outraged by the President’s plan to visit a German military cemetery to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony.

For an American President to pay honor to the dead (alas, too few) Nazi SS butchers who executed American GI war prisoners in a field near Malmedy, Belgium, in 1944 is an incredible insult to every American who served in the armed forces in World War II.

We Americans adequately demonstrated our willingness to bind the wounds of that war with our Marshall Plan aid, which was the principal factor in the rebuilding of the German infrastructure and economy after the war.

We do not owe the Germans a gesture that can only serve to legitimatize the abominable attempt by the Nazi regime to impose its malevolent vision of a super race upon the world.
