Burbank Vote Recount Doesn’t Change Things

Share

The three candidates who led the voting in April for Burbank City Council seats again were declared the three top vote-getters Friday, following a recount requested by outgoing Councilman Larry Stamper.

Stamper, who finished fifth among six candidates in the earlier general election count, had alleged that two voting machines in Precinct 22 had malfunctioned. He demanded a recount by the council, although he conceded that the results would probably have no effect on his finish, or that of outgoing Mayor E. Daniel Remy, who placed sixth.

During the recount by the City Council Friday, no malfunction was discovered, but two absentee ballots that had been improperly submitted reduced the final tally for the three top finishers--Mary Kelsey, Michael Hastings and Al Doffin--by two votes.

The recount was conducted in a special session of the City Council and the cost was negligible, city officials said.

The final count was: Kelsey, 8,313; Hastings, 8,103; Doffin, 6,647; Brian Bowman, 6,544; Stamper, 4,242, and Remy, 3,885.
