Realty Boards Plan Private Property Week Activities
Private Property Week, which coincides with Fair Housing Month, is being celebrated in the Southland today through Saturday with activities planned by various real estate boards.
The annual observation was designated by the National Assn. of Realtors to focus on increasing the public’s awareness of the right to use, own or transfer private property, which usually means a home.
In recognition of the week, the Newport Harbor-Costa Mesa board will spend Wednesday painting, repairing and landscaping the Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter for the Homeless in Costa Mesa.
On Thursday, the Beverly Hills board will announce winners of an essay contest on “How Becoming a Homeonwer Can Give Me a Voice in America’s Future,” open to 11th- and 12th-grade students at Beverly Hills High School. On June 11, the first-place winner will receive a $300 savings bond, and second-place winner, a $200 savings bond.
The Pasadena board plans several exhibits and forums “to educate the public on the real estate marketplace and on the emerging city of Pasadena.” Among these is an open house today from 1 to 5 p.m. and Monday through Wednesday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in the board’s office at 656 N. Los Robles Ave. Speakers will follow the open houses, discussing, on consecutive evenings “The Essentials of Home Buying;” “Fixing Up, Old and New--From Historical to Modern,” and “Legal Aspect of Ownership.”
The Southeast board will hold an 11:45 a.m. luncheon Wednesday at the board’s auditorium, 3642 E. Florence Ave., Huntington Park, to honor women leaders in the seven cities within the board’s jurisdiction. Ann Gabrell of Creative Time-Plus will speak on “Superwoman--Where Are You?” The board will also hold a bingo party, civic recognition day, youth day, prayer breakfast and “yard beautiful” contest in recognition of Private Property Week.
The Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley board is holding its first Pride of Ownership Contest to choose the most beautiful homes in the area. Winners will be announced Wednesday.
