OCTD Senior I.D. Cards: In recognition of National Senior Month in May, the Orange County Transit District will introduce a Senior Identification Card. Transit District officials say they expect the card to streamline the process of identifying older riders. Noting that more than 10% of OCTD passengers are senior citizens, General Manager James Reichert said the “cards will make boarding the bus easier (and) senior riders won’t have to search for their driver’s licenses, Social Security cards or Medicare cards.” Riders 65 years and older are eligible for discounted fares on OCTD buses. Between 6 and 9 a.m. and 3 and 6 p.m., senior citizens pay 35 cents. At other times they may ride free. Beginning in May, OCTD representatives will visit senior citizen centers to issue the free cards, which will carry the owner’s photo and signature. There will be no expiration date. For more information, contact a local senior citizens center or the OCTD at 636-RIDE.
