Monrovia will begin a 90-day trial period May 6 in an attempt to encourage voluntary citizen cooperation in getting vehicles off city streets on street sweeping days. Streets are swept every other week and each household and business has been mailed calendars showing the nights that vehicles should be removed to facilitate sweeping. If citizens cooperate, the city will not have to spend an estimated $35,000 to $40,000 to place signs on every street listing the parking restrictions, officials said. The issue arose after a questionnaire was sent to each household asking for opinions on overnight parking. Nearly 54% were in favor of prohibiting overnight parking while 35% favored restrictions.
