Several hundred children, their parents and the public converged upon the Mesa Verde United Methodist Church in Costa Mesa on Saturday to help the Mesa Verde Children’s Creative Art Workshop celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The daylong free art festival included exhibits showing the various projects the children have worked on during the school year. Young visitors also were given an opportunity to try their hand at painting, working with clay, assembling a collage and making buttons and bead art.

A highlight of the annual festival came in the person of Michael Holly of Anaheim, who demonstrated the art of juggling.

The Children’s Creative Art Workshop is a cooperative in which parents select, plan and teach the lessons with the occasional aid of local artists. In addition to regular workshop sessions, children visit local art museums and galleries.

Classes, which are open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade, meet at 3:30 on Tuesdays from October through April at the church. Further information is available by calling Katy Harrigan at 557-1956.
