Visa’s worldwide card volume increased 28%.

Visa International reported that its worldwide card volume increased 28% to $87 billion in 1984 from $67.8 billion in 1983. In the United States, Visa captured 60% of the bank-card market with volume of $61.2 billion for 1984, up 30% from $47.2 billion in 1983. “We believe that our sales-volume increase in the United States is indicative of growing consumer confidence in the economy,” said Charles T. Russell, president of Visa International.
