Legionnaire’s Disease Reported in Britain

STAFFORD, England —
The first major outbreak of legionnaire’s disease in Britain was confirmed Friday after 12 cases were identified.
The Mid-Staffordshire Health Authority said that the disease was discovered among 27 people who died and 70 who were infected by what was first thought to have been a flu epidemic. Experts in communicable diseases were rushed to Stafford to try to check the outbreak.
