Whittier Will Celebrate Founder’s Day

The Founder’s Day Assn., in conjunction with the Whittier Historical Society, will sponsor a program celebrating the founding of the city from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 11 at Central Park, 13200 Bailey St.

The free event will get under way with a performance by the Whittier High School Band from 11:30 a.m. to noon, when picnicking will begin with the association providing complimentary beverages and ice cream. Residents 90 years of age or older will be given free lunches. Advance lunch arrangements may be made by calling the Whittier Museum at 945-3871 or Myron Claxton, Founder’s Day Assn. chairman, at 693-5061.

Two local barbershop quartets will perform from 2 to 3 p.m. to conclude the program. Information is available at 945-8205.
