Brea : Council to Decide on Bonds for Street Repairs

Share

An $11.4-million bond issue to improve the older downtown area will be discussed by the Brea City Council on Tuesday.

If approved, the bonds would finance the repavement of old streets and the reconstruction of curbs and gutters south of Imperial Highway and east of Brea Boulevard, said Bonnie Dwyer, the city’s public information officer.

“They’re really old streets. Some are 50 years old,” Dwyer said.

The repairs would begin this summer if council members give the nod to the project during their meeting at 7 p.m. at the Brea Civic Center, 1 Civic Center Circle.

Another $12 million in municipal bonds allocated by the city’s redevelopment agency for projects such as sewer and water improvements are in the planning stages, Dwyer said.

The additional bonds include $10,301,655 for storm drainage improvements and $1,183,000 for street lights.
