The Fine Arts and Learning by Doing

Share

Emma B. Wharton’s letter “Turning Down the Music in Schools” (April 21) presented a valuable performance for all educators committed to the fine arts as part of an integrated curriculum.

Without a core of learning in elementary schools, the arts lose their most critical role--allowing children an opportunity to participate in an exploration of music, art, drama and dance.

The only audience that our kids get to be in is as observers, in front of the television, watching some one else do it! The arts make a difference for every child when they are all in the act.
