The Communist Party has expelled three Railway Ministry officials, disciplined six others and pardoned 100 in a purge of those who rose to power during the Cultural Revolution, the People’s Daily reported Monday.

The newspaper said the officials were among the types of people targeted for a general purge that began in 1983. It is aimed at expunging undesirables among the party’s 40 million members.
