The World : Police Kill S. Africa Youth
A 15-year-old black youth who reportedly robbed a bus driver was shot to death by police while authorities used guns and tear gas to break up riots in South Africa’s troubled Eastern Cape province, police said. The youth, police said, was shot while he and two companions were setting fire to a bus in New Brighton township, near Port Elizabeth. The three had boarded the bus and demanded money from the driver, police said. Police and soldiers clashed with blacks in other parts of the township in a continuation of anti-government rioting.
