A man who contends that he suffered brain damage when his artificial heart valve broke has sued manufacturer Shiley Inc. The lawsuit on behalf of Bruce Peterson, 46, of Santa Monica was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court and is the latest in a series of suits stemming from breakage of Bjork-Shiley 60-Degree Convexo-Concave valves made by Shiley Inc., an Irvine-based subsidiary of Pfizer Corp. Company officials declined comment on any of the suits. Attorney Edgar Simon said he is seeking unspecified damages for Peterson, a real estate loan agent and father of a 2-year-old son.
