Nevada officials have given National University permission to begin operations in North Las Vegas.

The approval came Wednesday after the state regulatory agency was urged to show caution in overseeing the San Diego-based school.

National was cleared by the Nevada Commission on Postsecondary Education to begin operations this fall. Commissioners were told that the university met all the requirements for being licensed.

Dale Andersen, dean of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas’ College of Education, urged commissioners to be cautious in their approval of National University, saying similar operations had not been successful in Nevada.

National University is designed to provide classes for working men and women who have at least an associate degree, with classes held at night and on Saturdays.

The North Las Vegas campus will be the ninth for National.
