Tories Drop to 3rd Place, Poll Shows

LONDON —
Britain’s ruling Conservative Party would finish third behind the Labor Party and the centrist Alliance if a general election were held now, according to an opinion poll published Thursday.
The survey by the Gallup organization, carried out for the Daily Telegraph newspaper last week, showed support for the parties as Labor 34%, Alliance 33.5% and Conservatives 30.5.%
The Alliance groups the Liberal and the Social Democratic Parties and has become a new force in British politics.
