Cypress : Meeting on Needs of Poor Will Be Held Wednesday

Share

The fourth and final public meeting for low- and fixed-income residents to share their needs with the Community Development Council is set for Wednesday in Cypress.

Residents of Buena Park, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Hawaiian Gardens, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Midway City, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Stanton and Westminster can help the council determine programs for next year. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Cypress City Hall, 5727 Orange Avenue.

As a result of last year’s public meetings with residents, the council will begin to issue $1,500 loans this summer to people who have jobs but live in motels because they cannot afford to pay deposits for apartments, council public information officer Jim Hamlett said. Criteria for the loans have not yet been determined, Hamlett said.

The Community Development Council is the county’s anti-poverty agency financed through the state office of economic opportunity, Hamlett said. The 15-member council is composed of representatives from the county’s Board of Supervisors, local businesses and low-income residents.
