Pipe Laying to Sand Blasting : Anza Center Offers Construction Course

Share

An intensive, four-week course for general construction laborers is being offered at the Southern California Laborers’ Trust Training and Retraining Center at Anza.

Each year, about 750 trainees complete the course, which includes instruction in forming, pipe laying, trench shoring, sand blasting, welding as well as other construction skills.

No tuition is charged to attend the strict, sometimes grueling training. Instead, participants are paid $104 weekly and receive a round-trip automobile allowance.

The 900-acre facility, located an hour’s drive from Palm Springs, is operated by the Laborers’ Training and Retraining Trust of Southern California and can accommodate 60 students during each four-week period. The Anza school is the largest of 59 similar training centers in the U.S. that last year provided training for an estimated 14,000 laborers.

Eligibility for the basic laborer’s course is made through any local union or contractor association.
