Long-distance telephone service will be probed.
The Justice department started its investigation of the manner in which 7,900 telephone business customers were assigned to American Telephone & Telegraph after receiving complaints from MCI Communications Corp. AT&T; had also advised the government of computer mistakes involving the assignemt of telephone customers to its long distance service in New England and southern states.
