Tokyo Summit Draws Envoys From 17 Cities
Mayors and representatives of 17 of the world’s major cities Monday began a three-day meeting in Tokyo to discuss common issues.
Tokyo Gov. Shunichi Suzuki said he hopes the “pooled wisdom” at “Major Cities’ Summit ‘85” would help solve urban problems such as pollution and transportation.
The cities involved are Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Bangkok, Thailand; Cairo; Istanbul, Turkey; Jakarta, Indonesia; Lima, Peru; Mexico City; Montreal; Moscow; Paris; Peking; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Seoul, South Korea; Stockholm; Vienna, and West Berlin. The governor of the state of New South Wales, Australia, is also attending.
New York City Mayor Edward I.Koch is to take part by satellite today.
