Annual Income Falls 50% for Alpha Microsystems

Alpha Microsystems Inc. Tuesday said net income for the fiscal year ended Feb. 24 fell by more than 50% to $2.1 million, from $4.4 million in the prior year. Sales dropped slightly to $51.7 million, from $52 million a year earlier.

For the fourth fiscal quarter, net income fell to $66,000, from $1.6 million a year ago. Sales dropped to $12.1 million from $14.3 million a year ago.

Richard A. Cortese, president, said, “Earnings were affected by the weakening domestic marketplace and Alpha Micro’s continued investment in research and development during the second half of fiscal 1985. Despite these challenges, Alpha Micro emerged financially sound and well-positioned for the coming year.”

Quarter Profits Up 54% for Fluorocarbon Co.

Fluorocarbon Co., the Laguna Niguel-based rubber and plastics molder, said profits jumped 53% to $1.4 million in the first fiscal quarter ended April 30 from $841,000 a year earlier.

Sales for the rose 20% to $31.7 million, from $26.5 million a year ago. Fluorocarbon is in the process of acquiring three companies and selling two segments of its business. But Peter Churm, chairman, said the first quarter results did not reflect any of the acquisitions or divestitures--all of which are expected to become final this month.

“Those good things will start to show up in the second quarter,” Churm said. “If the economy behaves as we expect it to, this year will be a gem.” The 28-year old Fluorocarbon Co. has 25 manufacturing plants around the country and reported assets of 65.5 million as of the end of January.

Standard Logic Moves Into Black for Quarter

Standard Logic Inc. Tuesday reported net income rose to $113,590 in the second fiscal quarter ended May 3, compared with a net loss of nearly $1.3 million a year ago. Revenues increased to $1.6 million, from $980,466 the prior year.

For the fiscal six months, net income increased to $223,564, compared with a net loss of $1.4 million a year earlier. Revenues were $3.4 million, compared with revenues of $2.3 million a year ago. Last year’s loss included a gain of $643,000 from the sale of Standard’s facility.

Wes Baumgardner, president, said third-quarter revenues are not projected to match second-quarter levels. Standard Logic manufactures and sells various computer based systems aimed at the restaurant industry in addition to manufacturing products aimed at the electronics, computer and manufacturing industries.
