2 Workers Exposed to Toxic Fumes in Mishap

Two employees of J. Vunder Roofing Co. of Tujunga were injured Wednesday when an arc welder overheated and burst, spilling toxic fumes and a liquid that may be PCB, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said.

Both victims, Michael Blunt and Scott Dingman, were taken to Lake View Medical Center following the accident at the company, 7951 Foothill Blvd. They were treated for exposure to toxic fumes and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The county Health Department will perform tests on the liquid Thursday to determine whether it is PCB, or polychlorinated biphenyl, a suspected carcinogen.
